Prophet Nuh A.S. – A Model of Unshakable Faith

⏳ In the Waiting, We Grow

The Story of Prophet Nuh (A.S.) and the Power of Patience.

In a world that moves at a fast pace, people often  expect instant results. We live in a time where waiting feels  unbearable — everything must happen now. But patience, one of the most beloved qualities in the sight of Allah, is becoming rare. Many struggle to remain still, to trust in the unseen, to hold on when things don’t go as planned.

💭 The Divine Pause

Sometimes, we ask Allah for a breakthrough: a cure, a job, a spouse, a way out. But when things don’t come on our timeline, we feel disheartened. We begin to doubt, question, and fear the worst.

But that delay… is not a rejection.

It is a sacred space where we are taught to hold on, to grow inward, to whisper du’a in the stillness and to build trust in the unseen.

Because Allah is never late. He answers when the time is best. And often, what we become in the waiting is even more powerful than what we were waiting for.

What is delayed is not  denied — it’s being prepared.

📜 The Story of Prophet Nuh (A.S.): Patience Personified

Among the most patient of all human beings was Prophet Nuh (A.S.), one of the five greatest prophets known as Ulul Azmi, those granted immense resolve.

He called his people to truth for 950 years – yes, nearly a millennium, day and night. But only a few believed. The majority rejected him, mocked him, insulted him.

And yet… he never gave up.

His story teaches us that patience means keeping sincere  effort and hope, even when success seems far. Prophet Nuh (A.S) trusted Allah completely, knowing that true success  comes from obeying Him alone.

🕋 From a Righteous People to Idol Worship

Nabi Nuh (A.S) was chosen by Allah to guide his people  back to the path of truth and worship of Allah alone. His community was once a kind and righteous society. Among  them were several respected and pious individuals – Wadd,  Suwa’, Yaghuth, Ya’uq, and Nasr – whom the people often  turned to for guidance and support in times of need.

When these righteous figures passed away, the community was overcome with grief. Unsure where to turn for advice and fearful of straying from the right path, they  decided to create statues in their memory, hoping these  would serve as reminders to stay close to Allah.

However, over time, the purpose behind these statues was forgotten. What began as a symbolic remembrance turned into idol worship, marking the beginning of their  deviation from tawheed (the Oneness of Allah)1.

Allah mentions in Surah Nuh, verse 23:

“Do not abandon your idols – especially Wadd, Suwâ’, Yaghûth, Ya’ûq, and Nasr.”

🗣️ The Rejection and Ridicule

Prophet Nuh (A.S) called his people to return to the  worship of Allah alone – reminding them that only Allah is  the Creator of the heavens, the earth, and all of mankind.  But instead of listening, those people especially by the  wealthy and elite rejected him, mocked him and looked down on him and his followers.

He warned them about Satan, the deceiver whose  mission is to mislead humans and lure them into idol worship. Those who follow Satan’s path will face a severe punishment, while those who follow Prophet Nuh (A.S) will be  saved.

Despite facing constant rejection, only a small group of  people – mostly the poor and humble – believed in him with sincere faith. Still, Prophet Nuh (A.S) never gave up. With great  patience and perseverance, he preached to his people for 950 years, as mentioned in the Qur’an.

🛶 The Ark and the Flood: Obedience in Uncertainty

After centuries of calling his people to the truth, Allah  commanded Prophet Nuh (A.S) to build an ark in preparation  for a great flood – a punishment for the disbelievers, as  promised.

Without hesitation or questioning, Prophet Nuh (A.S) began building the ark – right in the middle of dry land.  The disbelievers mocked him, calling him mad for  constructing a ship far from the shore. But Prophet Nuh (A.S) remained patient and steadfast, ignoring their ridicule and  continuing his work with full trust in Allah.

The Qur’an says in Surah Hud (11:38):

“So he began to build the Ark, and whenever some of the chiefs of his people passed by, they mocked him. He said, ‘If you laugh at us, we will ˹soon˺ laugh at you similarly.’

Eventually, the rain came – not just from the sky, but bursting from the earth as well. Allah’s punishment had arrived.

💔 A Father’s Pain: Losing His Son

Allah commanded Prophet Nuh (A.S) to gather all his  followers and bring along a pair of every animal species onto  the ark. When the time came, as described in the Qur’an,  the skies poured with rain and water gushed from the  earth, causing a massive flood that overwhelmed the land.

Prophet Nuh (A.S) called upon his family, including his  wife and son, to board the ark.

Despite his sincere plea, his son refused and said,

“Don’t worry, Father. I will take refuge on a mountain, it will protect me from the flood.”

Prophet Nuh (A.S) replied,

“Today, no one will be saved except those whom Allah shows mercy to.”

But his son and wife chose to stay behind and they were among those who drowned.

Allah then revealed to Nuh (A.S) that his son was not truly of his family, for he had rejected belief in the One true God, Allah.

🏞️ A New Beginning on Mount Judi

The ark finally rested on Mount Judi. The believers disembarked, safe. A new world lay ahead — purified from disbelief.

Prophet Nuh (A.S.) fell into gratitude and prayer, his patience rewarded by a new beginning.

🌟 Reflections: Lessons from Prophet Nuh (A.S.)

1. Patience Brings Progress

Nabi Nuh (A.S) spent 950 years calling his people to truth, never giving up. His story reminds us that change takes time, and giving up too early means missing out on what  could be. Whether it’s raising children, learning something new, or going through hardship – stay consistent, stay  hopeful.

2. Trust Allah’s Wisdom

When commanded to build an ark where no sea was in sight, Nabi Nuh (A.S) obeyed without question. Even when things don’t  make sense to us, Allah’s plan is always greater. Trusting Him means knowing there is good behind every command, even when it’s hidden.

3. New Beginnings After Every Storm

After the great flood, those who believed found a new beginning. Just like that, every hardship in life can lead to a fresh start, if we stay close to Allah. Faith brings renewal,  and a heart full of gratitude opens the door to better days.

Allah consoles the Prophet ﷺ (and us) in Surah Hud (11:49):

“This is one of the stories of the unseen, which We reveal to you. Neither you nor your people knew it before this. So be patient! Surely the ultimate outcome belongs to the righteous.”
